🛏 HOW BEDS WORK — THE COUNTY RULE
Overnight beds in Miami-Dade are referral-only: every bed is assigned through the county's coordinated system. No shelter in the county takes walk-in overnight stays, and the county office is admin-only — it is not an intake desk.
Day centers are the opposite: walk in for showers, meals, and mail — no referral needed for day services.
Nobody wastes a walk: a bed starts with a referral, never with showing up at a shelter door.
